Beaming sun and big crowds made the Lions on the Green event on Sunday (June 13) a roaring success.

More than a hundred classic cars were parked up on the Green, as part of the family fun day that was free to attend.

Their proud owners stood alongside, pleased to be back able to display the gleaming examples of yesterday motoring to the public.

One local owner Richard Dixon had his Austin Seven Ruby already for showing till he lockdown started bring a close to car shows. "It is great to be back being able to display these cars to the public," he said. "We spend hours getting these examples of motoring ready for events like this and it was a real disappointment when the Covid crisis put a stop to shows”

Bob Hobbs from Calne had brought his 1934 Austin 10/4 to the show proudly showing he has a complete history of the car from when his father purchased it new.

He said: "Every service and repair and renovation is listed in my records it’s a travelling museum item of motoring a and I am thrilled to be able to put on show once again”.

Making an appearance is the more modern sports car of Terry Carr of Derry Hill He has spent 18 months completely rebuilding the car originally built in Westbury.

He said: "This 1970 Marcos three litre was truly labour of love.

"I basically bought it in bits. It was without an engine boot and many panels and I have rebuilt it to its showroom condition solely to put on display on events like this.

Along with rows of Veteran and Vintage cars the Lions club event had stalls selling artisan products on the other side of the pathways along with food stall ice-cream children’s entertainment and a beer tent but this year no music in line with covid restrictions.

Catering for the event was provided by Devizes Rotary who have missed providing delicious Chilli, Paella, hotdogs and burgers to the people of Devizes at town events over the past 15 months in lockdown.

President of Devizes Rotary, Kelsey Greenaway, said: “We are such an active group of people who really want to give back to our community so it has been great to have that opportunity once again. Working with Devizes Lions is an ideal way of demonstrating that we are all much stronger as a community when we work together.”
