A Wiltshire manor, once home to TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp, has gone on the market for £3.5 million.

Highlands, also known as Verne Leaze, is off Silver Street in Calne.

The 11-bedroom home was once owned by Charles Allsopp, 6th Baron Hindlip.

Mr Allsopp is well known for wielding the gavel in the record-breaking £24.75 million auction of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers in 1987, but is perhaps more famous for being Kirstie Allsopp’s father.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

The Location, Location, Location television presenter is the eldest child of the baron and his late wife, Fiona, an interior designer, and Kirstie has hosted her Handmade Fair at nearby Bowood House.

It was the Allsopp family home for around 30 years, who sold it in 1982 or 1983 according to the Times.

Described as "an excellent combination of fine principal house with a four bedroom wing, two cottages extensive outbuildings all in lovely gardens", it also has views out towards the Bowood Estate.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

Rightmove describe it as "A very appealing Georgian family house."

The home also includes a cinema room, a butler’s pantry and extensive wine cellars.

Rightmove says: "The property is situated to the south of Calne and overlooks beautiful countryside. The area is rich in history with the notable Bowood Estate to the south.

"The neighbouring picturesque villages provide both Gastro and village public houses and local amenities."

Part of the estate includes Housekeeper’s Cottage, which includes a living room with kitchen, one bedroom and a bathroom.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

The Lodge is situated alongside the entrance gates and is understood to date from the mid-19th century. It comprises a hall, sitting room, kitchen, three bedrooms and a bathroom.

A Coach House and stables are attached to the main house and provide stabling for six horses and extensive garaging plus workshops and stores.

In the garden, a massive zip wire reaches between oak and beech trees and a walled garden contains an open air heated swimming pool.
