It was a poignant book signing in Devizes this week, for writer Heather Barnett.

Heather, originally from Eastcott, had launched her first novel, Acts of Kindness while restrictions meant that a in-person event was impossible.

But now, thanks to Devizes Books and Indie Day, she was able to meet with readers in person on Saturday (June 5).

β€œIt has been wonderful to see people in real life and talk to them,” she said.

β€œI’m immensely grateful to Devizes Books for the chance to be here.

β€œIt is one thing to see the response and feedback online, and another to be able to talk about the book in person and discuss it in real time.”

Signing copies of her novel at Devizes Books was a special occasion for Heather, as years ago, while a pupil at Lavington School, she won an English prize and spent her prize vouchers at Devizes Books.

She said: β€œAfter all that, to see my book in the front window is just fantastic.

β€œIt really is just a dream come true, and I’m so happy at the response it has had.”

Acts of Kindness can be purchased online or at Devizes Books.

Due to the success of Acts of Kindness, which was partly inspired by her upbringing in Wiltshire, Heather is in the process of writing her second novel.

Lord Seeks Wife, a romantic comedy, will be published summer 2021.
