Friends will come together next month to honour the life of Liam Gilbert.

A memorial match has been organised for Liam, who died last August.

Corsham Town Football Club had got in touch with footie fan’s friends, and a plan was formed to not only to remember Liam, but to also raise awareness of mental health.

The memorial match, between Corsham Town XI and a Knorr-Bremse team, will double as a charity fundraiser for Mind.

It’s been a difficult ten months for Liam’s loved ones. Kurt James met Liam through a mutual love for football when they were ten, and both playing for the Trowbridge Wanderers.

Their friendship grew over the years, and the pair worked together at Knorr-Bremse.

“After Liam passed away, an idea for something like this had been in my mind for a while,” Kurt explained.

“Joe Martin approached me a couple weeks ago, he had worked with Liam’s dad, and we spoke about the possibility for match.

“It’s nice to honour him with the football side of things, but to also use the event as a chance to raise awareness.

"Mental health is talked about a lot more recently but, still not enough. Our goal is to raise as much awareness as we possibly can.”

The event will bring together his friends, family and the Corsham community, with the goal of commemorating the memory of Liam, as well as raising money and awareness in his honour.

Ticket sales, £5 each with kids going free, have been kept affordable so as many people can get involved as possible.

“It was really difficult when Liam passed," Kurt said. "But we as his friends are even closer than we were before.

“If we can stop this happening to one other person, to prevent what happened to Liam, then that would be something.

Corsham Town FC have offered the club’s pitch and facilities for the charity event.

The event will take place on July 9 at 7.15pm, and gates will open from 6.30pm. JC’s Kitchen & The Soltice Bar will serve up food and drink, and a raffle will take place at half time. Email KJ201991@outlook.com for tickets
