STUDENTS spent the day cleaning up the community with Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council’s Grounds.

Pupils at Royal Wootton Basset Academy had asked the town council to assist in a community day to help do their bit.

They cleaning up Sparrow Lane, Jubilee Lake, Wilts & Berks canal and the Allotments in Church Street by litter picking and pruning on May 25. They also gave out knitted hearts to people living in the area to cheer them up.

Head of the year group, David Storey, said: "It was such a fantastic collaboration between the council and the academy. The ground staff were amazing with our students who worked so hard all day. We had another group of students delivering heart messages around the town.

"Some of the comments we have received from members of the community have been so touching. Students just wanted to give something back to the community after the year we have had. 300 hearts were and hand made by Debbie Barbour who did an amazing job."
