A NEW production of Michael Frayn’s multi award-winning drama Copenhagen opens at the Theatre Royal in Bath next Wednesday (June 9).

Frayn’s gripping drama Copenhagen is set to appear at TRB from June 9 to Saturday June 26.

Starring Malcolm Sinclair (Pressure, Casino Royale, Pie in the Sky), Haydn Gwynne (Drop The Dead Donkey, The Windsors, Peak Practice) and Philip Arditti (House of Saddam, The Honourable Woman, The Danish Girl), this new production opens in Bath prior to a UK tour.

Frayn’s masterwork is a dazzling exploration of two brilliant minds and their motives for meeting during the Second World War.

This totally absorbing historical detective story, conjured from a smattering of scientific facts, is a daring, fascinating and stimulating drama which won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2000.

Copenhagen also won Best Play at the Evening Standard Awards, Best Play at the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards and the Drama Desk Award for Best New Play.

An award-winning novelist, playwright and journalist, Michael Frayn’s diverse work for theatre also includes Noises Off, Donkeys’ Years, Democracy, Alphabetical Order, Benefactors, Clouds, Balmoral and Afterlife.

He has also written screenplays for two films, Clockwise in 1986 and First and Last, which won an Emmy Award in 1990.

This new staging of Copenhagen has twice been postponed by the UK’s national lockdowns in November 2020 and January 2021.

It is directed by Emma Howlett, with original direction by Polly Findlay who worked on this production last autumn for Bath’s Welcome Back Season.
