ANYONE tempted to drive while under the influence of drugs has been urged by a traffic officer to watch terrifying footage of a Chippenham motorcyclist being thrown from his bike.

Jordan Dodson, 27, broke his pelvis and left arm in the crash on Pinehurst Road in Swindon last August.

Dodston was later found to be over the drug driving limit and also had herbal cannabis in his rucksack.

Wiltshire Police have now released CCTV footage showing the moment Dodson's Yamaha motorbike struck the bonnet of a silver VW Golf, which had pulled out of a car park and into the path of the motorcycle.

It shows the moment Dodson was catapaulted over the car.

PC Paul Brewster of the Roads Policing Unit said: “It is only [by] luck that Dodson wasn’t left with life changing injuries or worse.

“We urge anyone who thinks that getting behind the wheel of a vehicle or getting on their bike under the influence of drugs or alcohol to remember this video and let that act as a strong reminder of the clear dangers.

“Taking even a very small amount of an illegal drug could put you over the limit and the consequences could be catastrophic.”

Last week, Dodson, of Cowleaze, Chippenham, was fined £240 and given a 12 month roads ban by the magistrates after he admitted drug driving. Police ordered the driver of the VW to complete an awareness course.

PC Brewster said: "This incident highlights how the impact of drugs in the system can impair your decision making process.

“Drugs have a detrimental impact on your ability to judge time and distance and this collision could potentially have been avoided if this was not a factor."
