A herd of cattle has gone missing near the A4 between Marlborough and Hungerford.

Eighteen cattle escaped from Freeman's Marsh next to Hopgrass Farm.

They got through a fence and crossed the busy road yesterday afternoon.

Six of the missing cows have now been found, and the last sighting of the others was in woodland between Chilton Foliat and Littlecote.

Some have been spotted by Howdens in Hungerford in the early hours of this morning.

The reunited six were found in woodland near Littlecote.

Farmers and locals are using drones with heat sensors attached to see if they can be spotted.

"We're using a drone with thermal imaging," said Bruce Mayhew who put the alert out.

"Problem is that if they have found some delicious grass in a 300 acre wood they will be all bunched up and quietly munching. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack."

Police are also said to be involved in the search for fear the animals may stray on to the busy A4.

Sarah Ferretti posted:

"We drove past Cobbs last night at midnight - the traffic was stopped as at least 4 cows were grazing on the Cobbs side of the road. One of the other drivers was on the phone we believe reporting it. Hope they can be found soon."

If you see any of these animals please report immediately to the Town and Manor, Hayward.
