A teenage boy has been taken to hospital following a suspected arson attack in Malmesbury last night.

Emergency services were called to a barn fire on Foxley Road at around 9pm.

Police, ambulance and fire units were called to the scene.

A fire spokeswoman said: "We were called to a barn fire on Foxley Road, Malmesbury, yesterday evening.

"A crew from Malmesbury and the water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett attended the incident, finding a small fire within a pile of waste inside the barn which was being used for storage.

"One hose reel jet was used to extinguish – the stop came at 10:01pm."

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “At around 9.20pm last night, we were alerted by the fire service to a fire at a barn on Foxley Road, Malmesbury.

“A teenage boy suffered what are believed to be minor burns to the face and was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

“At this stage, we believe the fire was started deliberately and are carrying out enquiries. Nobody has been arrested.”

On social media, Malmesbury Fire Station added: "Initial call to assist South west ambulance with male with burns to face, diverted to barn containing large amount of building waste on fire crews with help from water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett Fire Station.

"Second time we have been here, thankfully we were able to extinguish quickly."
