THERE are long delays on the A303 after a serious crash in which a woman was airlifted to hospital today (April 12).

The road is closed in both directions between the junctions at Deptford (A36) and Willoughby Hedge (A350) after a crash between three cars and a lorry. Diversions are in place.

South Western Ambulance Service were called at 12.18pm to a multi-vehicle crash near Chicklade.

A statement from the service said: "We sent numerous resources to the scene, where we were supported by police and fire service personnel.

"We treated two patients, and conveyed one of them - a female - to hospital by air ambulance."

Wiltshire Police say it is expecting the road to remain closed for "some time", and is urging motorists to find alternative routes.

Highways England has added that road users are being diverted via the A36, A350 and B3081 in both directions.

Significant delays are still being experienced into this evening as crash investigation work takes place, with queueing traffic for four miles being reported as of 6pm.
