The swimming pool at Trowbridge Sports Centre has reopened for the first time since 2019 following major repair works.

The sports centre’s swimming pool has today (April 12) opened for the first time following emergency repair works on the steel structure.

People lined up from 7am for the first swimming session of the reopened pool – eager to get back into the water after a year of lockdowns and patient waiting.

James Dennison, general manager of the Places Leisure managed facility said: “It’s really great to have everyone back. The staff are ready to go, the venue is Covid-secure and it’s been a very busy first session.

“It’s just fantastic to be back.”

Mr Dennison said the sports centre is booking people in constantly with many locals renewing memberships for the reopening.

“We’ve family swims this week because of the Easter holidays. We’ve got Trowbridge swimming club and various other clubs back,” he added.

“It's exciting to have to open again and even under Covid arrangements it’s fantastic.”

The pool was set to open in January, but due to the national lockdown announcements, plans were pushed back.

Issues with the pool’s steel structures meant that in December 2019 the pool shut for emergency works, which cost £350,000.
