Plans to remove up to 12 pylons - and around 4.5km of overhead electricity line - from near Roundway Hill and Devizes's Millennium White Horse are underway.

The cables will go underground to enhance the landscape and views north of the town.

National Grid, behind the proposals, will start to undertake surveys to the area from the week beginning April 12. The surveys carried out will inform the route of underground cables that will replace the pylons and electricity lines.

Balfour Beatty will be carrying out the work for a period of up to eight weeks, and people may see them working on roads, the Conscience Lane area and farm lanes - and people have been advised to be aware while travelling.

The proposals form part of National Grid’s Visual Impact Provision (VIP) project, which is a national programme to reduce the visual impact of existing high voltage power lines in selected areas across England and Wales.
