Devizes pupils have marked Lent in a poignant way this year.

Schoolchildren have been hard at work fundraising for CAFOD, a charity which supports those in poverty.

The pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Devizes, had been thinking of ways that could can help others during Lent, and felt it would be important to put others first.

Mara, Year 6, said: “By giving, we are not only giving money but our love or time.”

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

Classmate Charlie added:“With our help, people can have a happy life, full of joy. We should remember not to look down on other people but instead help them up.”

The Whole School have been raising money for CAFOD through participating in their ‘Walk for Water’, which is walking 10,000 steps a day for 40 days. They have so far raised £282.

In addition, other children have been inspired to go the extra mile during Lent.

Chloe in Reception has been raising money for Hope for Hasti and Jake in Year 4 has raised money for Dementia UK, taking part in the March Dog Walking Challenge.

Meanwhile, children in Year 3 class discussed ways that they could give back to others during Lent. One of the ways the children suggested was to reach out to others who are feeling sad or facing challenges.

So the children have been writing letters for their homework this week, and will send or drop them off throughout the Easter holidays to spread love and give back in the community!

Mrs Wilkins, headteacher at St Joseph's, said “I am so proud of the children at St Joseph’s.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Well done!Well done!

"Not only do they strive to shine themselves, but also to help others to shine.”
