Wiltshire’s public health boss urges caution as England takes its first steps out of lockdown today (March 29).

From today, the second part of the first stage of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown will begin.

This easing of restrictions ends the “stay at home” order which is to be replaced with “stay local”.

Kate Blackburn, director of public health for Wiltshire, welcomed the new phase but urged residents to still stick to the rules to keep case rates low.

She said: "If people do not follow this guidance, larger gatherings or indoor meet-ups could increase the rate of infection and ultimately cost lives in Wiltshire.

"This is particularly important around Easter time when hopefully we will have some good weather and people can meet outside. The whole of Wiltshire has worked so hard to bring the infection rate down here, and we need to keep following the rules to keep cases low."
