AN online rally for pet owners to talk about the rising crime of dog thefts is to take place later this month.
Wiltshire and Swindon Police and Crime Commissioner prospective candidate Liz Webster has organised a DogZoom for owners and their dogs on Sunday, March 14 at 6.30pm.
The largest-ever online rally will be hosted by Emma Kennedy and politicians and celebrities including comedian Ricky Gervais will be contributing video messages while others will join in the conversation and hear campaigners and personal stories of cases of dog theft.
Ms Webster, who is the Lib Dem candidate for Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner, is running a campaign to tackle pet theft in Wiltshire, with the Stolen and Missing Pets Alliance and DogLost to highlight the levels of concern around the spiralling dog theft crisis.
Campaigners hope to persuade the Government to take tougher action with a Pet Theft Reform Act and tougher sentencing by the courts which could include jailing dog thieves.
