A care home team in Chippenham are celebrating after receiving a glowing report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Avon Court, on St Francis Avenue, offers both nursing and residential care as well as nursing memory care for those living with dementia.

Many residents take pleasure in hobbies, including baking, writing, gardening, dancing, painting, quizzes, and playing chess.

The 60-bed home's recent CQC report gave them a 'good' rating and a number of elements of care were highlighted in the report.

HC-One Avon Court care home manager, Irene Kirui said: “The home has been on a journey of improvement and I will ensure that we do not rest on our laurels and continue to go from strength to strength, ensuring the kindest and most person-centred care remains our top priority. I am delighted that the hard work and commitment shown by the staff team has been recognised by CQC."

An extract of the inspection reads: “People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, the policies and systems in the service supported this practice…People and their relatives told us they felt safe and had no concerns. Staff were knowledgeable about their responsibilities to safeguard people"

“All staff spoke very positively of the support they received from the current management team and the difference it had made to the service having them in place. The management team spoke of the importance of ensuring the staff team were happy and understood what changes were being made and why.”

Inspectors also commented on the introduction of the 'high touch point' cleaning in order to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission as well as the management team completing regular audits, where improvements were identified and addressed with staff.

HC-One managing director, Ruth Yates said: “This rating is great news. I would like to thank the whole team for their commitment and hard work and congratulate them on an impressive report.

“We are dedicated to achieving our aim of being the care provider of choice for those looking for the very best care and support, and employer of choice for the best, most professional, and kindest care staff.”
