TWO Bath and England rugby legends have offered their support to raise funds for Bath Rugby Foundation and Dorothy House.

Dan Hipkiss and Jeremy Guscott are backing more than 100 Bath Rugby fans who plan to take part in this year's Bath Rugby Walk which will be a 'virtual' event because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event has been given a twist this year as walkers are encouraged to step up, step out and take up their own walking challenge during the Six Nations rugby competition which ends on Saturday, March 20.

Dan Hipkiss said: “It’s very simple, all you’ve got to do is pick a distance and complete your weekly challenges and then raise some cash for Dorothy House and the Bath Rugby Foundation. Sign up today and get your free exclusive Bath Rugby Walk T-shirt.”

Jeremy Guscott added: “We know it’s going to be different this year but I think by taking part and raising much-needed monies for these two charities you’re all incredible."

"It’s going to be tough, we know that, there’s lots of challenges out there and I’d just like to say good luck. I hope it all goes well.”

In 2021, for the first time, the charities are throwing down the gauntlet and inviting those taking part to choose their very own rugby-themed distance walk over the Six Nations.

Some may wish to walk the equivalent distance from their home to The Rec, to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff (57 miles), to the home of England rugby at Twickenham (107 miles), or even Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh (387 miles).

Each year, the work of Dorothy House and Bath Rugby Foundation has a direct positive impact on the most vulnerable. From some of the youngest people, who have had the toughest start in life to those at the end of their lives, both charities deliver ongoing care directly to those in our community who need it now more than ever.

Lynne Fernquest, CEO of Bath Rugby Foundation said: “The Covid pandemic has only reinforced the inequalities faced by young people in our city. 3,521 children receive Free School Meals and by the end of secondary school poorer pupils are nearly 20 months behind their more affluent peers.Everyone who signs up to the challenge will help the Bath Rugby Foundation to bridge that gap.”

Dorothy House chief executive, Wayne de Leeuw added: “The care we provide at Dorothy House has never felt more vital or needed than at this time.

"Despite the impact of the pandemic, we are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the support that they and their family need at the end of their lives and we need our community to raise funds to allow us to reach more of those who need us.”

The Bath Rugby Walk Challenge is free and when you sign up, you’ll be sent an exclusive free T-shirt to wear.Sign up at www.bath-rugby-walk-2021.eventbrite.co.uk or email events@dorothyhouse-hospice.org.uk
