The petition to stop the closure of Furlong Close will not be discussed at full council later this month.
Despite having surpassed 25,000 signatures the petition to stop Furlong Close closing in June will not be debated by full council on February 23.
This is due to legal proceedings currently surrounding Hft – to which Wiltshire Council is noted as an interested party.
In a statement, the local authority said: “There are legal proceedings issued in the Administrative court in January.
“Hft is the defendant and the council is identified as an interested party. The court has yet to determine if the application should proceed to a trial for judicial review.”
The statement continues that a decision on whether or not the proceedings will head to trial is likely due this week.
“While the council accepts the strength of feeling generated by this issue it would be inappropriate for this matter to be debated at full council while there are ongoing legal proceedings in which the council is an interested party,” the statement concluded.
Hi, we know debates are important but in this case there is currently a legal process ongoing. Please have a look at the attached statement for more information. pic.twitter.com/sbTCgbFqhA
