Malmesbury Amateur Boxing Club donate food and clothing to Open Doors.

Last week, head coach of the Malmesbury Amateur Boxing Club and independent PCC candidate Mike Rees donated food and clothing to Devizes-based homeless charity, Open Doors.

The donations were collected from club boxers, parents and local people before being delivered to Open Doors on Friday.

Mr Rees said that a member of the public also donated £100, which he used to buy tinned food for the charity.

He said: “Last week I mentioned how important community support groups , council projects and sports and leisure activities were to crime reduction and road safety.

“On Friday evening I had the pleasure of delivering food, bedding and clothing to Angie Carpenter and her colleagues at the Open Doors charity for the homeless in Devizes.

“The items had been kindly donated by boxers, parents and local people to our boxing club in Malmesbury recently.

“I am in awe of the work they do supporting the homeless, and it is reassuring to know that there is some sort of sanctuary available for those in less fortunate positions than ourselves.”

“I was quite concious, as I didn’t want people to see it as me trying to get votes – I’d have done it no matter what.”
