FLOOD defence barriers have been installed at Bradford on Avon ahead of an expected rise in water levels on the River Avon.

Bradford on Avon community emergency volunteers said the Environment Agency is taking precautions ahead of two expected peaks today and tomorrow.

They added: “The Packhorse Bridge is likely to be flooded and drivers should approach Staverton causeway with care.”

River levels at Staverton have been rising since 10.30am this morning and are flooding nearby fields. Drivers are urged not to enter flood waters on the road.

Community volunteers are urging householders in flood risk areas to check Environment Agency flood warnings to see if their property are likely to be affected over the weekend.

Areas of west Wiltshire most likely to be at risk of flooding include Lacock, Reybridge and the Beanacre and Bradford Road areas of Melksham.
