FIREFIGHTERS were called out early yesterday evening to help stop a canal boat from sinking.

They helped to stabilise a canal boat that was taking on water at the Caen Hill Marina at Rowde near Devizes.

The crew from Devizes fire station mobilised at 6.48pm after receiving the emergency call.

They investigated and found the water appeared to be coming from the domestic water supply. It is understood that a burst pipe caused the problem.

The crew used a mini ejector pump and safe working in water equipment to pump out the water and stabilise the boat.
