A DECISION on whether to stage this year's Trowbridge Mayor's Civic Dinner has been referred to a council committee.
The Tory Group leader on Trowbridge Town Council, Cllr Antonio Piazza, is urging colleagues to axe this year’s Mayor’s Civic Dinner, scheduled to take place in March.
Cllr Piazza wants members to reallocate the £3,000 budgeted for the dinner to help revive the traditional and annual Wiltshire Armed Forces and Veterans Celebrations event.
The Armed Forces event has been given a grant of only £3,000, a huge cut from the £7,000 originally allocated for the two-day celebration in June
At last week's full council meeting, Trowbridge town clerk Lance Allan said the issue has been referred to the council’s policy and resources committee for further consideration.
Cllr Piazza feels that now is the wrong time to be staging the dinner, which usually raises thousands for the mayor's charities.
