AWARD winning actress Celia Imrie, known for her roles in movies such as Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again,  has thrown her support behind a recent fundraiser for Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts (DOCA).

Ms Imrie became a patron of the charity - responsible for a multitude of events in the market town's calendar - last year.

She has now thrown her support behind the charity's latest fundraiser, and passed on a message to the charity's staff and volunteers who recently decorated the Shambles.

The bauble installation was made possible with the help of Nursteed School and Haywood Care Centre.

She said:

"Bravo to all who brought the Sparkle back into Shambles Market at Christmas.

"What a Joy. This optimistic cheer is exactly what we need to keep our spirits lifted into Spring-time.

"So important, - even in isolation we can keep Singing, Dancing, Painting, playing Music and Creating in anyway we can.

"Sharing together to let your artistic flame stay lighting up your lives.

"With love from Celia."

Ms Imrie, who has family connections to Devizes, is DOCA's very first patron.

The charity hopes to bring Carnival to the streets of Devizes by July, but desperately need public support in doing so.

Artistic director Loz Samuels said: "This has been such a hard time for everyone. We hope that when we can start to program events for Devizes again that people will be really ready to join in and socialise again."
