The special bond between the children of Aldbourne and residents of Aldbourne Nursing Home has not been lost as a result of lockdown.

St Michael’s School pupils would often enjoy crafting days, cuddles and storytelling sessions at the home, near to Marlborough.

It was therefore difficult when coronavirus hit and restrictions prevented social calls.

However, children at Aldbourne Rainbows have now managed to lift spirits.

They made a special visit just before Christmas, laden with presents and singing Christmas songs, to spread festive cheer.

Each resident was presented with a Christmas shoe box full of thoughtful gifts and treats that had been especially chosen for them.

One resident, Tom, was so moved by the gesture that he wrote a letter thanking the Rainbow, Phoebe Worby, who had made up his gift box that included, amongst other things, a crossword book, cheese straws and a coconut suet feeder for the birds outside his window.

Phoebe said: “We wanted to make the boxes to help cheer up the residents because they miss seeing the children. I enjoyed choosing special things for Tom’s box. It was really nice to see him smile and be happy."

Now that all residents have received their Covid-19 vaccinations, it is hoped that it won’t be long before children are back in the home, filling the home "with the laughter and sparkle that only children can bring."
