The Bath Rugby Walk has returned in a virtual format for 2021.

The event, in aid of Dorothy House and Bath Rugby Foundation, will understandably look a little different this year, as walkers are encouraged to step out, step up and take the challenge to another level.

In previous years upwards of 500 people have taken part in this event, walking from Dorothy House in Winsley, to the home of Bath Rugby at The Rec.

In 2021 however, for the first time, the charities are throwing down the gauntlet and participants can choose their very own rugbythemed distance walk over the Six Nations.

Between 6 Feb - 20 March, participants will choose their own rugby-themed distance walk.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

Over the six-week period you can chose to walk from The Rec to the Principality Stadium (57 miles), to Twickenham (107 miles), or even Murrayfield (387 miles!) depending on what you prefer.

To add some bonus points, a weekly fun or sporting blitz challenge will be laid down by some of Bath Rugby’s famous faces and some of the charity's own stars. There will be brilliant prizes for top fundraisers and individual blitz winners!

Emily Knight, Event Fundraiser, Dorothy House said: “It’s fantastic to be working with Bath Rugby Foundation again on this much-loved community walk to help raise vital funds for our community. During a pandemic it’s even more important for the two charities to work together and build on the great success of this event."

It is free to sign up - and participants receive a free t-shirt.

Each year the work of Dorothy House and Bath Rugby Foundation has a direct impact on the most vulnerable people across the region.

From some of the youngest people, who have had the toughest start in life, to those at the end of their lives, both charities deliver ongoing care directly to those in our community who need it now more than ever.

Nikki, who is part of Mashy Marchers, said: “The Bath Rugby Walk for the last two years has been the perfect way to support Dorothy House, bringing family and friends together for a beautiful walk while remembering loved ones no longer with us.

"Our reward is to enjoy our quintessential sport rugby not to mention a great pie and pint! Mashy Marchers walk in memory of Stuart Morgan-Nash and it’s a truly inspiring and humbling experience.”

Don Kennedy, Head of Engagement at Dorothy House, added: “The Bath Rugby Walk has become such an important event for our local community. Each year we are overwhelmed by the support we receive. It directly contributes to vital services that are so needed right now. I can’t wait for this year’s event, I know it will be different and we are looking forward to getting everyone together again.

"Until then however we hope we can provide something just as special for our supporters at a time where it is so needed.”
