The rising bollards at Devizes’ bus gates have been removed.
The controlled bollards were taken away by Wiltshire Council thanks to the mounting costs of repairs, after they became unreliable due to water damage.
The bus lanes will now be enforced round-the-clock by cameras which will photograph and fine motorists using the bus lanes.
The first set of the cameras were installed on Newman Road last February.
At Devizes Area Board last week, chairman Cllr Simon Jacobs rejoiced in telling the committee: “The dread bollards have finally had their day.”
Cabinet member for highways, Cllr Bridget Wayman said: “The automated bus gate in Newman Road has been broken for some time and has now been removed.
“It has been replaced by cameras that will capture any vehicle, except buses, travelling through where the gates were.
“Any drivers caught illegally passing the camera will receive a fixed charge notice from Wiltshire Council.”
