The reopening of the swimming pool in Trowbridge has been postponed due to lockdown.

The £350,000 works to repair the steel-framed pool started in August and were officially completed on December 23 last year.

The pool was forced to close in December 2019 pending the emergency repairs.

Cabinet member for leisure, Ian Blair-Pilling said the local authority planned to reopen the pool later this month, but because of the new national lockdown that was pushed back.

Cllr Blair-Pilling said: “Places Leisure, who manage the centre on our behalf, were in contact with the swimming, aqua sports and diving club when Trowbridge Sports Centre first closed to try to understand their needs and support them to find water space at other centres.

“Unfortunately, the pandemic had an impact on many sports clubs over the last nine months and this has provided additional challenges to find them alternative water spaces, with many leisure centres closed for months throughout 2020.

“We really appreciate everyone’s patience during this time and look forward to welcoming back people and the clubs to the centre as soon as we’re able to.”
