One Devizes-based company has offered some positive retail news amid the pandemic.

HUG Pet Food is hoping to go on to big things after its November 2020 launch, and recently secured a £500,000 investment to help develop the business.

Managing Director Vicky Marshall said: “Amidst a sea of negativity, be it Covid pandemic, British farming angst or Brexit, I called my business HUG Pet Food, it seemed appropriate for many reasons but it also stands for Honest Uncompromised Goodness.”

The business manufactures its own fresh raw food and is working to renovate a dilapidated 10,000 sq ft building on the Garden Trading Estate in Devizes to house its offices and production line.

While Covid has held up some aspects of the business, HUG Pet Food has now managed to move past those issues and already has seven staff members.

Ms Marshall has been in the pet food manufacturing sector for over a decade and is using that expertise to produce a super premium selection of dog and cat food created with the help of nutritionists and vets.

HUG Pet Food also cares for the environment, as its aims to use as little plastic as possible in their packaging, which has been supplied by a south west company.

Ms Marshall added: “We have a zero waste to landfill policy and donate to Ecologi to balance our carbon footprint. We currently have 500 trees in our forest and plant a new tree for every new customer.

“I was pleased to have obtained Ethical Company status and have the Vegetarian Society accredit my vegetarian dog food, sales from which I donate one per cent to For The Planet .

“We aim to inject some colour and fun into sharing life with your dog or cat, and will be releasing cooking videos to show how you can cook the likes of meatballs with courgetti spaghetti and cottage pie for your dog.”
