Stock has begun to run dry in a Wiltshire supermarket this evening as tighter Covid restrictions are set to be announced.

This evening, Boris Johnson is to make a televised address setting out new emergency measures to control the spread of coronavirus in England, which many fear will bring a new set of lockdown restrictions.

A shopper in Malmesbury's Waitrose sent in this image of shelves nearly devoid of toilet paper, which was bought in bulk before the nation's last full lockdown.

A Government statement on future regulations is to be made at 8pm on Monday, and will be followed by the recall of Parliament on Wednesday so MPs can debate the measures.

A No 10 spokesman said: “The spread of the new variant of Covid-19 has led to rapidly escalating case numbers across the country.

“The Prime Minister is clear that further steps must now be taken to arrest this rise and to protect the NHS and save lives.”
