JAZZ singer Victoria Klewin has released a new song, Straight and Narrow, with a new video inspired by Wiltshire scenes.

Klewin, who grew up in Corsham, is a frequenter of dimly-lit cocktail bars and once-smokey jazz clubs, and has also toured worldwide as a backing vocalist and songwriter with soul band Hannah Williams and The Affirmations. The band were famously sampled by Jay-Z on 4:44 in 2017, and as a result were rarely off the road for the following years.

Straight and Narrow is Klewin’s first release since 2016, and her debut release as a solo artist. What’s more, a new full-length release is planned for 2021.

The song is a “little slice” of contemplative piano-based acoustic soul, all about coming through hard times.

Klewin moved back from Bristol to Corsham this year, and used her home town as the backdrop for Straight and Narrow’s music video.

She is also using her Wiltshire surroundings as inspiration for future work.

Klewin said: “In March, all my work disappeared overnight and it quickly became necessary for me to move back home with my parents due to the financial implications of the coronavirus. Determined to make the best of it, I’ve started to release my own music again and the first single is accompanied by a music video featuring the beautiful Corsham Court, where I have spent much time walking and soul-searching since the world has been upside down!

“Despite the circumstances, I’m actually very happy to be back home in Wiltshire and have found the comparative peace and quiet to be a good source of inspiration for my writing.”
