Cumbrian Dean Henderson achieved yet another milestone today - a first Premier League start for Manchester United.

The goalkeeper was handed his full top-flight Red Devils debut in their 3-1 win at West Ham.

Henderson was called into the side with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refusing to risk David De Gea as the Spaniard continues to struggle with injury.

Whitehaven-born Henderson conceded the opener to the Hammers' Tomas Soucek in the first half.

But he had a part in Man Utd's equaliser in the 65th minute when his long kick down the right was helped inside by Bruno Fernandes for Paul Pogba to score.

Hammers boss David Moyes argued that the Henderson kick had gone out of play, but Man Utd added further goals from Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

Henderson, 23, later excelled with a fine save from Aaron Cresswell's free-kick.

Speaking before the game, Solskjaer explained that he did not want to risk first-choice De Gea with one eye on the crucial Champions League game against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

Henderson made the most of his opportunity and after the game he tweeted: "Yes 3 big points!!! I loved every minute being back out there!!"

It was England keeper Henderson's sixth first-team appearance for Man Utd, his only previous Premier League outing for the club coming when he replaced De Gea at half-time in the recent Southampton game.

Carlisle United will also be keeping tabs on highly-rated Henderson with the Blues in line to benefit financially from his progress at Old Trafford.

The exact terms which could lead to further payments to Carlisle - in light of his move from the Blues' academy in 2011 when Henderson was 14 - have not been revealed.

But it is believed that, as well as a sell-on clause, Carlisle can benefit from Henderson's first-team involvement at Old Trafford.
