CHARITY shop co-ordinator Sue Oliver has an answer to those fed up with repeats on the TV: get your head in a book.

She has been collecting items for the Christmas shop the Trowbridge branch of the Bath Cancer Support Group are delighted to be able to open on Saturday, now that Lockdown Two has been relaxed.

Over the last couple of months, she has been collecting hundreds of items for the shop and hopes to equal last year’s £11,000 total.

The trustee said: "It’s been a difficult time with the lockdown forcing us to delay the opening. But we have been busy collecting in the donated items and among the quality bric-a-brac we have had a staggering amount of quality books donated.

"In preparation for the opening my team has sorted the non-fiction books into 37 categories and sorted the hundreds of novels into A to Z of authors.”

Last year the shop, in Castle Place, Trowbridge, sent money to the RUH's new solid state gamma camera and this year the committee want to raise enough money to fund additional radio therapy equipment.

The shop is due to open at 10am on Saturday, closing at 4pm, opening daily for the run up to Christmas with Covid precautions in place.

The popular Festive Wishing tree is again part of the pop up shop in the shopping centre

The group has raised many thousands of pounds during its 30-year history, with all funds going to buy essential equipment for the fight against cancer at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
