A man has been charged after being arrested following an attempted burglary in Trowbridge on Sunday evening.

Marcin Siwko, 38, of no fixed address, was charged with possession of a blade in a public place and assaulting an emergency worker.

He was released on unconditional bail to appear at Salisbury Magistrate’s Court in February.

Shortly before 9pm, police received a call from a Clarks Place resident reporting there had been an attempted break-in at their home and a man had been disturbed by a neighbour.

CCTV enquiries were carried out which led to officers identifying a potential suspect.

The man was located in Castle Street within 20 minutes of the first call and on arrest was found in possession of two lock knives and a pointed torch.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and was later arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

He was taken to custody in Melksham for further questioning in relation to this incident .

Police also questioned him over a series of burglaries which have occurred across the town over recent weeks.

Mr Siwko was recently given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year by a District Judge at Swindon Magistrates Court.

He had pleaded guilty to trespassing on the Bath-Southampton railway line, possession of a knife and possession of cannabis .

The court was told a walker had called the police after spotted Mr Siwko cycling down the Bradford-on-Avon to Trowbridge line on September 13.
