A fundraiser who has helped to raise more than £25,000 for charity over the past 15 years has finally stopped rattling his collection tins.

Roger Challoner Green, of Church Lane, Wingfield, near Trowbridge, has finally decided to call it a day at the age of 81.

He is pictured with Brooke's chief executive Petra Ingram, her husband Michael Ingram, volunteer Pat Girdler from Westbury, and the charity’s mascot Mini Fat Pony in Melksham in 2017.

Since 2005, the former boys PE and geography teacher at Corsham School, has raised over £17,700 for the animal welfare charity Brooke and more than £8,000 for Compassion in World Farming which is fighting to end factory farming.

Mr Green said: "I decided to retire back in March when the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown restrictions came in.

"I just love animals, particularly horses and donkeys, and after retiring from teaching I found I had time on my hands."

During his 15-year stint, Mr Green collected in ten towns in west Wiltshire and east Somerset, between March and October.

He now plans to spend more time with his wife Frances, 77, who was also a former girls PE teacher at Corsham School.

The couple have one son, Dr Julian Green, who is an author and university lecturer.
