THE organising team behind Company for Christmas, who organise a lunch event on Christmas Day for those alone in Trowbridge, Corsham and the surrounding communities, are looking at new ways in which they can support their guests for Christmas this year.

Organiser Kate Dewey, who works for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said the event would not go ahead in Trowbridge this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown restrictions on large public gatherings.

She said: “As we are all learning to live with the Covid 19 Pandemic, the restrictions and guidelines are firmly in place.

“It is therefore, only right for the safety and welfare of our guests and volunteers, that we cease holding a big event for large numbers of people.

“The team, although challenging, are exploring ways in which we can provide something for our previous guests who are alone, whilst adhering to our strict government rulings.

“We are currently working through several thoughts and ideas to see if any of them are workable, safe and conform to guidance we must follow.

“We will be contacting all previous guests ensuring they are fully aware of our current situation and share thoughts of how we are hoping to make Christmas Day a little brighter for them if we are able to.”

Last year, more than 100 people attended two sittings at Tesco’s superstore in County Way, Trowbridge, after difficulties in organising an event at County Hall. Meals were also laid on in other locations for people who could not attend the main event.
