The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Wiltshire increased by 509 over the last seven days, according to official figures.

Public Health England figures show that 2,948 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Wednesday, October 28 in Wiltshire.

This is up from 2,858 the same time on October 21 and a 24 hour increase of 90 new cases in the county.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in Wiltshire now stands at 590 cases per 100,000 people.

This is a figure that stands far lower than the England average of 1,420 cases per 100,000.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 153,046 over the period, to 942,275.

Wiltshire's cases were among the 38,283 recorded across the South West, a figure which rose by 8,048 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
