A PEWSEY mother has completed an incredible journey to Downing Street in a bid to secure her children’s freedom.

On a holiday to Tunisia in 2015, Tanya Borg’s ex-husband Mohammed El Zubaidy smuggled their children across the border to Libya - where they’ve been kept at their grandmother’s ever since.

Ms Borg has tried for five years to get her daughters, Maya and Angel, home to Wiltshire.

But after multiple dead ends, including court cases which ordered the children should be sent home, the mother is now determined to ensure her plea for help reaches the UK Government.

Last Friday (October 23) she and sister Christina began a fundraising walk to London - to deliver a letter directly to No 10 Downing Street.

As Ms Borg set off, she explained she was desperate to give her children the “biggest cuddle.”

She added: “I cannot give up. They are my girls and they have no-one else fighting for them.”

Days of walking, throughout rain and cold weather, followed before the pair arrived in London.

On their travels they were stopped by strangers who asked about the fundraiser. One man on the Kennet and Avon canal even dashed into his houseboat to find money to give to the sisters.

The weary pair posted their letter in London surrounded by a small group of friends and national media on Tuesday (October 27).

Ms Borg, on her drive home to Wiltshire, said: “We are absolutely exhausted. It was an emotional journey.

“I just hope it makes a difference.”

A Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokeswoman said: “This is a complex case and we are providing support. Our ability to provide consular support is limited by the volatile security situation and conditions on the ground.”
