A young Devizes man with disabilities has landed his dream job – delivering meat using his power wheelchair.
Ed Scipio, who has cerebral palsy, is a regular sight in Devizes as he does his delivery rounds in his chair and a wagon on the back.
The 21-year-old works three days a week for Devizes butcher Walter Rose & Sons and has made a "real difference" with his deliveries throughout the year.
Born premature at 24 weeks, he spent a great deal of his first seven years of life in hospital.
Jack Cook, from Walter Rose & Sons, said: "We’ve known Ed for a while and when he finished college we decided to get him in to work by helping with deliveries around town. He’s made a real difference to the business and everyone around town knows him."
For the past three years, Mr Scipio has been a residential student at National Star in Gloucestershire, a specialist further education provider supporting young people with complex disabilities and learning difficulties. He finished college in July.
Ed and his mother Sharon says National Star transformed Ed into a confident young man.
Not only did he achieve qualifications in his Work Outcome programme but he was elected Student Union president and received a Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and a DofE Gold Achievement.
Mrs Scipio said: "When he started at National Star he would go along with anyone and not speak up for himself,’ says his mum. ‘Now he is a confident young man, not only speaking up for himself but supporting others."
