STEPPING out in style is 'absolute beginner' Jane Vowles who has taken up a lifetime ambition to learn how to tap dance.

She was one of the first to join some new tap dance classes run by tutor Caroline Wilkinson at the Guide Hut in Park Road, Trowbridge.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the dance classes were stopped in March but now have restarted and Jane was one of the first to join the new dance class.

Jane, 51, from Hawkeridge, said: “I have always wanted to tap dance ever since I was a little girl but never got round to doing it. I learned how to ride horses instead.

"During lockdown, I didn't want to sit around doing nothing, so I decided I must learn how to tap dance, so I was thrilled to join the new class.”

The former NHS public health professional retired earlier this year before the Covid-19 pandemic began.

She now helps her husband Paul Vowles run the Blueridge Farm in Hawkeridge raising rare breed Dexter Cattle, Berkshire and Oxford Sandy and Black Pigs, Dorper sheep, ducks and chickens.

Tap dance teacher Caroline is equally thrilled to be back teaching her skills to new and existing students.

She said: “I have been a dance teacher since the 1980s then teaching children and several years ago started adult classes.

“Obviously for six months classes had to stop, but we’ve just begun again and I had a new enquiry from someone who has never tapped before.

“Because numbers are now limited per class, I thought it might be an idea to begin a new class for beginners."

“I have started beginners’ classes on Tuesdays 10-10.45am in the Guide HQ and I am recruiting more wanna-be dancers."

“Classes are fun, friendly and informal. There may be someone out there who fancies learning a new skill whilst getting a bit of exercise and it’s good for mental health - a win win!For more details, contact Caroline Wilkinson on 0125 752030.
