Children's book illustrator Anna Currey made a special visit to the Chippenham and District Artists group last Sunday. The artist's 'big break' into the publishing world came with the book 'Mr Pepino’s Cabbage' and, throughout the years, she has collaborated with a variety of notable writers such as Julia Donaldson. The artist gave a talk at the Rotary Hall, in Chippenham, and detailed not only her journey in the industry but also how animals have been depicted in art over the years. In one tale, Mrs Currey recalled when she was told to stop drawing rhinos and elephants as publishers had had enough of "big grey animals!"
The next meeting of the Chippenham and District Artists will be on November 8 at the Rotary Hall at 2.30pm, with oil and acrylic artist Jamil Akib. Go to www.chippenhamartists.co.uk for more
