The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Swindon increased by three over the last 24 hours, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 1,390 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Wednesday in the borough, up from 1,387 the same time on Tuesday.

The rate of infection in Swindon now stands at 626 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 690.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 7,108 over the period, to 453,264.

Swindon's cases were among the 17,884 recorded across the south west, a figure which rose by 136 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.

No new coronavirus patient deaths have been recorded at Great Western Hospital in the last 24 hours.
