A STAVERTON woman was delighted when she raised £666 at a coffee morning which turned out to be the last local event before rule of six new lockdown measures hit.

On Sunday around 80 people – all socially distanced – turned out at the green at Staverton Marina to support Kerry Shearman’s Macmillan coffee afternoon.

Kerry has held events for Macmillan for the past three years and this year wanted to do a little more. So, instead of hosting the event in her garden, she made it accessible for more people.

Kerry and her family made tea, coffee and cakes while other supporters sold jams, jellies and books in aid of the cancer charity.

She said it was very fortunate the event could take place before the new rules, adding: “We did plan it for that day and it just so happened that it worked out that way – we were quite lucky.

“Members of our family have been supported by them so it’s good to give back.

“We raised more than I thought and people were very generous.”
