A MAN was found dead near Swindon Railway Station earlier today.

Police taped off Gloucester Street after receiving a call at 10.30am to reports of the sudden death of the man. 

Four officers were seen parked at the bottom of the street with two cars and a van at the top.

British Transport Police were also at the scene. 

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "At approximately 10.30am today we received a call from the ambulance service about the sudden death of a man on Gloucester Street near Swindon Railway Station.  

“Our officers and emergency services are currently at the scene. 

“A cordon is in place and may affect traffic and pedestrian traffic in the area.

“Our enquiries are on-going so it would not be inappropriate to comment further for now.” 

Swindon Bus Company has diverted its 11 and 17 services which are unable to go to the stops at the Swindon Railway Station.

In a tweet the company said: “Due to Station Road being closed by the police, our service 11 and 17 are unable to serve the rail station, the nearest alternative stop is Fleming Way A for 17s and Fleming Way C for 11s. We apologise for the disruption.”

Last night a man died after being hit by a train travelling from Swindon to Didcot Parkway. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the South Western Ambulance Service.
