A SERIES of fun-filled activities for children have been organised for the summer holidays by a Trowbridge church following the postponement of the planned Wonder Zone holiday club.

Usually at this time of year St James Church would be host to hundreds of children and family members for their annual holiday club, Tea Time picnic, BBQ and special services.

Tom Bullock, children and families worker at St James Church, said: “Like pretty much everything else in 2020, this summer has had to look rather different.

“Back in February, plans had been well underway to transform the building into a huge Science Lab for a week’s worth of science-themed activities and entertainment for the children with a holiday club called Wonder Zone.

“Although the families were naturally disappointed that Wonder Zone had to be postponed, they are excited about the activities St James Church have planned instead - mostly taking place outside and always in a COVID-safe manner.”

A smaller and more socially distant than usual Fun Club took place last week. The children’s feedback was overwhelmingly positive with a highlight being Mr Bullock being ‘pied’ alongside his colleague Sam Walker.

There are more family activities happening throughout August and all of them are free:

• August 9: Family Tea-Time Picnic at 4.30pm in the Rectory Garden, opposite the Church Hall in Union Street. This year families will need to bring their own picnic.

• August 16: All Age Summer Celebration Service at 10.15am in the Church.

• August 18: Mini Melodies, 10am, open air songs and music for under 5s outside the Church.

• August 19: Creation Base between 10am and 12noon, a drop-in for children up to 11 years to get making with all crafts being made out of doors.

Mr Bullock and the team at St James Church have worked hard to ensure that all these activities are carried out safely with social distancing, increased hygiene and Covid-safe measures in place at all times.
