FORMER West Country cycling star Tony Wills is calling on everyone to join his latest challenge.

Tony, 85, who lives with dementia, is cycling 100 miles to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Support.

He is asking everyone who loves cycling to join his Tony’s On Tour challenge and stage their own fundraising ride to coincide with the Tour de France from August 29 to September 20.

Tony, of Whitley near Melksham, bought his first bike at the age of 15 and joined Bath Cycling Club. He won the first race he entered in 1955 and went on to compete all over Europe, representing the South of England in the 1960 Milk Race.

He said: “Cycling has been a big part of my life and I’m so pleased to be able to do something to support the charity which is helping me so much. If you love cycling please take part in this challenge to raise funds for this amazing local charity.

“When I was diagnosed with dementia it was a complete shock and very frightening.

"Just knowing that Alzheimer’s Support is there for me makes such a difference to me and to my wife Mary.”

People taking part can design their own route and choose their own distance and there is no minimum fundraising target.
