LOCAL charity Wiltshire Sight is celebrating a £1,000 donation from Waitrose in Melksham.
Alan Whetherly, a community sight loss advisor for Wiltshire Sight with his guide dog Judy, and Katie Endacott, of Vision West of England, represented the Devizes-based charity.
The bumper cheque was awarded through the Waitrose store's Your Partners Through It All Community Fund.
This awards cash from a £500,000 fund from across the John Lewis Partnership set up earlier this year to support local charities in their response to coronavirus.
Lianne Leonard-Sampson, partner and team manager
at Waitrose in Melksham, said: "Partners from across the country had the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of the overall budget set aside by the business."
Wiltshire Sight exists to reduce the impact of sight loss, providing local services to enable blind and partially-sighted people to lead fulfilling, independent lives.
Mrs Endacott said: “We do a lot in Melksham and it is really good to see support from the local business community.
"It makes a big difference to the visually impaired community in Melksham.”
