Swindon Borough Council will this week apply for £25 million in funding to help complete seven different projects around the town.

The money is be part of the government's £3.6 billion Towns Fund and could be used to help prepare land for new homes at Kimmerfields, create a Brunel Centre market hall, upgrade the David Murray John Tower and refurbish the Health Hydro.

These have been selected from 20 projects suggested by a dozen different organisations in response to a call by the council for suitable schemes.

The town is one of 101 places in England invited to apply.

Here’s what you told us on Facebook:

Tom Hardy: “Bulldoze the town centre and build apartments.

“Drive out the poor shop keepers and put up blocks of flats. That’s all this town will be good for. A cheap settlement and commuting town for London.”

Daniel Adams: “Some promising schemes there, hopefully they get the required funds.

“The Brunel tower definitely needs some TLC given its prominent place on the town's skyline.”

Ken Brand: “None of these projects will rejuvenate the town centre, which is what the grant is supposed to be for.

“Try asking the public. They will tell you what is really needed for them to revisit the town centre.”

Neil Douglas: “Bet it involves knocking things down, waiting 20 years and then coming up with another plan... knock more stuff down.”

Pete Bonadio: “I’ll believe it when it happens, I have zero faith in this council.”

Mark Griffiths: “Swindon needs a Cabot Circus style revamp."

Amy Liffen: “Reduce or scrap parking! That will help.”

James Murphy: “A new bus station with decent toilets and a place for passengers to wait out of the wind and rain.”

Peter John: “£25 million doesn’t even touch the sides.”

John Dyer: “Less talk, more action.

“We’re all sick of hearing about planned projects that probably lined the pockets of architects. Crack on, bored now.”

Lesley Grace: “How about using the money to rehouse the homeless?”

Jamie Lawrence: “£25 million seems reasonable to bulldoze everything.”

Martin Edwards: “Bulldoze the whole town centre. Do us all a favour, the place is an embarrassment.”

Gerry Large: “And I guess they’ll be borrowing the money to build the new Zurich building?”

Sandra Edmondson: “Gone round full circle. Couldn’t wait to knock down the two inside markets, now it's being brought back!”

Angela Langcaster: “It will be great. Bring back markets, make shopping interesting.

“Bring back new big brands and restaurants, even diners like Americans. Go get inspired.

“Stop knocking down old buildings for supermarkets.”

Steve Bishop-Smith: “Nothing will change.”

Mjayie James: “Market hall, really?

“John Lewis now gone, ideas please, we need an Ikea.

“We need decent shops. Look at Swindon there is nothing in the centre of town.

“It’s a dive. No shops. It looks tired, run down and outdated.”

Adam Bedwell: “Just knock David Murray John down, stop building houses and start looking at developing businesses.

“Things like 'Snoasis' and Amazon warehouses are what we need.

“Swindon has essentially become an accommodation town for the surrounding areas.”
