A MASSIVE load of pre cast concrete slabs is likely to bring traffic problems to Chippenham on Saturday morning.

A Wiltshire police spokesman said the load would come along the M4 and into Chippenham before delivering to the Olympiad Sports Centre.

He said: "Motorists using the M4 and roads around Chippenham may experience some additional delays this Saturday morning.

"An abnormal load is due to exit junction 17 of the M4 at approximately 8am, travelling along the A350 and onto Malmesbury Road towards Chippenham town centre - its final destination being the Olympiad Sports Centre.

"The convoy will consist of one load of pre-cast concrete slabs 4.5 metres wide and 80 tonnes in weight plus associated private and police escort vehicles.

Due to both width and weight, the load will be slow moving and have the potential to cause congestion at junctions and within Chippenham where oncoming traffic will be required to pull in and wait for the convoy to pass.

"Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across said move."

Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey.

Police escorting resources are being provided by officers, paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public.
