Police have arrested two people in Chippenham after being tipped off about drug dealing on an estate.

Officers were on foot patrol on the Hill Rise estate on July 1 following reports of suspected drug dealing taking place in the area when they observed a man getting out of a Ford Fiesta and entering the wooded area near Hill Corner Road.

A police spokesman said: "When officers attempted to detain him in the woods, he ran off and was seen to discard of several small items into the hedgerow. The man – a 34-year-old from Bristol - was eventually detained and arrested by officers who located the discarded items and found 15 suspected wraps of class A drugs.

"When officers returned to the Ford Fiesta parked nearby, they located a 27-year-old woman in the passenger seat. The woman, who is from Wick, South Gloucestershire, was also arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs."

Both have since been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

PC James Isaac said: “As these arrests demonstrate, it’s really important that residents continue to report any concerns they have regarding suspected drug dealing in their area as we will take action.

“We will not tolerate drug dealing of any kind in our communities and those who travel into Wiltshire from out of county to deal drugs to vulnerable people will be caught and action will be taken.”
