Eldene Community Centre should be refurbished and opened to the public by February next year Swindon Borough Council has said.
Conservative councillor for Covingham and Dorcan Kevin Parry asked the new cabinet member for organisational excellence Robert Jandy when the £230,000 of work would be finished.
He said: “Eldene Centre is an important site to Swindon Borough Council and to the local residents.
"Would the cabinet member confirm his commitment to making Eldene Centre a priority and to put this important project out to tender this summer to enable works to start in the autumn?
Coun Jandy said: “Eldene Centre is indeed a priority for this council and myself as cabinet member.
"Both the property department and our landscaping team have recently given this project a massive push and we are at the stage where work will soon be evident.”
He said invitations to tender will be sent in August with a builder appointed in October.
The 10-week project will start in November and the newly done-up centre will be open in February.
